Some people believe that Greens are “nerdish.” In fact, it is actually quite a compliment; after all, a nerd is defined as “a person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits.” Some of the world’s greatest inventors were very “nerdish.” For example, Thomas Edison, Philo Farnsworth, and Nolan Bushnell–all Greens–gave us lights, TV, and video games. What would your world be like without these three inventions?

Nothing is quite so flattering to a Green teenager as being called a big brain, poindexter, egghead, or know-it-all, even though it might have been intended as a put-down. Greens are constantly in the pursuit of knowledge, and it’s quite satisfying to be recognized as having more than most. They want to be known as the resident expert, even if the expertise lies in something arcane or trivial, like how to say in Klingon, “Where do you keep the chocolate?” (nuqDaq yuch Dapol)

Green teenagers also want to be recognized for their original ideas. Thinking outside the box is their modus operandi–it’s something they try to do all the time. Whether they’re inventing or innovating, Greens take a great deal of pride in creating something that hasn’t existed before. Quick to take on a mental challenge or point out the flaws in someone’s argument, Greens also enjoy mental contests and competitions where they can out-reason or outwit an opponent. This pattern of thinking in non-conventional ways often bleeds into other areas of their life, such as the way they dress, talk, and behave, making the Green a rather odd duck.

Because of their peculiar attitudes and actions, Greens often have the reputation of being unusual, unsociable, or awkward. Of course, this is only in the minds of Blues, Golds and Oranges–to a fellow Green, they’re perfectly normal, more normal than 94 percent of the general population in fact. While Greens don’t seek isolation and exclusion, they soon learn to live with it, accurately perceiving that they don’t fit into most popular social groupings.
